Why are you calling me “bitch”?

Hey, so you wouldn’t BELIEVE what’s been going on at work. It’s about this coworker, Greg. Greg and I have worked together at the Pasta Palace for almost a year now. Things were okay at first, you know, typical coworker stuff. But a few months ago, he started calling me “bitch.” Not to my face, mind you, but I’d overhear him. Like, I’d be walking past the kitchen and hear him muttering to someone else, “Where’s the bitch? I need the bitch to refill the parmesan.”

At first, I brushed it off. I thought maybe I misheard him. Or maybe he was talking about someone else. Wishful thinking, right? Because it kept happening. More frequently. Louder. It started getting under my skin, like a tiny splinter that festers and gets increasingly painful.

I haven’t confronted him directly yet. I’m kinda conflict-averse, you know? Plus, it’s always when he’s talking to someone else, so it’s hard to call him out without making a scene. I tried dropping hints, but he’s either oblivious or he just doesn’t care.

Lately, it’s become almost unbearable. Like, I dread going to work. Just yesterday, he yelled from across the restaurant, “Hey bitch, table six needs more water!” I felt my face flush crimson. Everyone looked at me. I just wanted to disappear.

So, I’m at a loss. I don’t know what to do. Do I talk to him? Do I go to my manager? Do I just quit and go work at a pizza place? I love making pasta, but I’m seriously starting to consider my options. Any advice? I’m all ears.
