The Saboteur will run out of tricks, and we can finally move forward
I have this issue with my manager. She seems kind and supportive in front of everyone, but there’s one scenario that keeps happening over and over again.
Basically, whenever I’m working on a new project, I’ll share my progress with the team, thinking everything’s on track. Then, out of nowhere, she goes behind my back and makes changes to the plan. She’ll talk to a few higher-ups or switch out the specs, but she never tells me. Suddenly, at the next team meeting, I’m blindsided because the goals have shifted, and I’m the only one who didn’t get the memo!
The worst part is, she always frames it in a way that makes her look like the hero. She’ll say, “I had to step in and make adjustments to stay aligned with our vision,” as if I wasn’t following the vision in the first place. It leaves me feeling like I’m constantly playing catch-up, and of course, she ends up getting all the credit for “saving the project.”
I’ve tried asking her directly for updates, but she smiles and says, “Oh, don’t worry—I’ll keep you posted.” And yet, the same thing happens again and again. It’s frustrating, but I’ve been trying to stay positive. I’m working on documenting every change and keeping records of my original ideas, so at least I have proof of what I contributed.
Still, it’s tough. It’s like fighting an invisible battle I’m not sure I can ever win—but hey, I’m determined to keep doing my best. Maybe one day, The Saboteur will run out of tricks, and we can finally move forward without all these sneaky detours.
